Battleship Game Rules
Goal of the Game
Sink all of your opponent’s ships by taking turns guessing the locations of their ships on the grid.
Setting Up
Each player uses two grids:
One grid is used to arrange ships and record the opponent’s shots.
The second grid is used to record your own shots against your opponent.
Each player's fleet consists of:
- 1 × Aircraft Carrier – 5 squares
- 1 × Battleship – 4 squares
- 1 × Cruiser – 3 squares
- 2 × Destroyers – 2 squares each
- 3 × Submarines – 1 square each
Important Placement Rules
- Ships must be placed horizontally or vertically.
- Ships cannot overlap.
- Ship corners cannot touch.
- There must be at least one empty square between ships
How to Play Battleship
Players take turns calling out coordinates on the grid (for example, F3) to attack their opponent.
The opponent responds with:
- “Hit” if a ship is hit
- “Miss” if no ship is hit
If a player scores a hit, they may continue their turn. Once they miss, the other player takes their turn.
Important: Make sure your opponent cannot see your grid.
If a player hits the final remaining square of a ship, the opponent must announce which ship was sunk, for example:
“You sank my battleship!”
Winner
The first player to sink all of their opponent’s ships wins the game.

Adult Version – Additional Rules
Foreplay Cards
When smaller ships (1–2 squares) are sunk, the player who sank the ship draws a Foreplay Card, reads it aloud, and performs it immediately.
Players are never required to complete an activity and should always communicate openly and respect each other’s comfort levels.
Ships that unlock a Foreplay Card
2 × Destroyers – 2 squares each
3 × Submarines – 1 square each
Example
- A small ship is sunk
- Draw a Foreplay Card
- Perform the activity immediately
Intimate Activity Cards
When larger ships (3–5 squares) are sunk, the player who sank the ship draws an Intimate Activity Card, reads it aloud, and places it aside for later use once the winner is determined.
Ships that unlock an Intimate Activity Card
1 × Aircraft Carrier – 5 squares
1 × Battleship – 4 squares
1 × Cruiser – 3 squares
Example
- Large ship is sunk
- Draw an Intimate Activity Card
- Keep it for later use after the game ends
Love Battleship Adult Version – Winner
The winner may choose two of the Intimate Activity Cards collected during the game for the losing partner to perform.
As always, both partners should communicate openly and only continue with activities they are comfortable with.
